Position Overview VIT Bhopal University invites applications for the position of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). The CHRO will be responsible for leading the complete Human Resources function of the University, including talent acquisition, HR operations, employee relations, performance management, statutory compliance, policy implementation, leadership development, workforce planning, and institutional culture building. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in managing HR functions at a senior level, preferably in higher education, large institutions, service organizations, hospitals, corporates, or campus-based environments. Key Responsibilities Strategic HR Leadership Develop and implement the overall HR strategy aligned with the vision, mission, and growth plans of VIT Bhopal University. Advise the University leadership on manpower planning, organizational structure, HR policies, employee productivity, institutional culture, and people-related risks. Create a progressive HR framework that supports academic, administrative, technical, and support functions of the University. Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning Lead recruitment for faculty, non-teaching staff, administrative staff, technical teams, and senior leadership roles. Develop structured hiring processes, manpower budgeting, workforce forecasting, and succession planning. Build strong recruitment pipelines through academic networks, job portals, consultants, employee referrals, and institutional partnerships. Ensure timely hiring of quality talent across departments while maintaining transparency and process discipline. HR Operations & Employee Lifecycle Management Oversee the complete employee lifecycle including onboarding, confirmation, transfers, promotions, exits, documentation, and HR records. Strengthen HRMS usage, employee data management, attendance, leave management, payroll coordination, and employee service delivery. Ensure smooth HR operations with timely resolution of employee queries and administrative requirements. Policy, Compliance & Governance Ensure compliance with applicable labour laws, statutory requirements, UGC/AICTE and higher education regulatory expectations, internal policies, and institutional governance standards. Review, update, and implement HR policies, service rules, code of conduct, disciplinary procedures, grievance redressal mechanisms, and employee handbooks. Maintain strong documentation and audit readiness for internal, statutory, and regulatory reviews. Employee Relations & Grievance Management Manage employee relations across academic and non-academic teams with maturity, confidentiality, and fairness. Handle grievances, disciplinary matters, workplace conflicts, misconduct cases, and sensitive HR issues in accordance with policy and law. Promote a professional, ethical, respectful, and accountable work environment across the campus. Performance Management & Productivity Design and drive performance management systems for faculty, staff, and administrative teams. Support goal setting, appraisal cycles, KPI frameworks, performance improvement plans, and recognition programs. Work with department heads to improve accountability, role clarity, productivity, and performance culture. Learning, Development & Leadership Capability Identify training needs across academic and administrative departments. Develop leadership development programs, faculty development coordination, managerial capability building, and skill enhancement initiatives. Support succession planning and capability development for key institutional roles. Culture, Engagement & Retention Drive employee engagement, internal communication, retention initiatives, and culture-building programs. Promote a high-performance, student-centric, inclusive, and service-oriented work culture. Create systems to improve employee satisfaction, motivation, belongingness, and institutional commitment. HR Analytics & Reporting Develop HR dashboards and periodic reports for leadership covering hiring, attrition, manpower cost, attendance, performance, engagement, compliance, and workforce productivity. Use HR data to identify trends, gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities. Desired Candidate Profile The candidate should be a senior HR professional with strong strategic, operational, and people management experience. The candidate must have handled large teams, multi-department HR operations, employee relations, statutory compliance, and senior leadership interaction. Experience in higher education institutions, universities, large campuses, hospitals, IT/services organizations, or professionally managed institutions will be preferred. The candidate should possess strong communication skills, administrative maturity, decision-making ability, policy knowledge, and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders. Required Qualifications MBA / PGDM / Masters degree in Human Resources, Personnel Management, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or related field. Additional qualifications in Labour Laws, Organizational Development, HR Analytics, or Leadership Development will be an advantage. Experience Minimum 12–15 years of overall HR experience, with at least 5 years in a senior HR leadership role. Prior experience as CHRO, Head HR, Director HR, VP HR, Senior HR Business Partner, or equivalent leadership role is preferred. Experience in higher education or large institutional environments will be an added advantage.
